Farewell
to an old favourite which makes way for Asia's largest ship
Mumbai,
15th April 2013: Royal Caribbean International’s recently
refurbished Legend of the Seas® today called for the first time in Mumbai after
its revitalization at the Ballard Pier -Ballard Estate. Mumbai became the final
Asian destination for the innovative 'Ship of Lights' as she concluded her 4
year deployment in this region. Her arrival was marked by an official welcoming
ceremony and her departure was an emotional moment for those who have sampled
her charms and will now need to travel to Europe for this experience. Legend of
the Seas® will be replaced by Asia's largest ship next month thus bringing more
first-at-sea innovations to this region.
Speaking on this occasion, Ratna
Chadha, Chief Executive, TIRUN Travel Marketing, India’s Representative for
Royal Caribbean International, said, “It is a sheer delight to welcome
one of Royal Caribbean International’s most well-travelled ships. Legend of the
Seas® was revitalized in January this year and the extensive 3 week makeover
has resulted in a virtually new ship that features more accommodation and
dining options, new and exciting entertainment, upgraded technological
conveniences and much more.” She further added, "Legend of the Seas®
brought the international style of cruising to Asia and introduced innovative
signature amenities and activities like the rock-climbing wall and mini-golf.
Her presence allowed travel enthusiasts a chance to experience the Royal
Advantage closer to home and enabled many Indian travellers to discover how a
cruise ship can be a destination in itself.
The 2074-guest Legend of the
Seas®has called at over 40 ports spanning 13 different Asian countries and been
served by five Captains over the past four years. Recently, the ship received a US$50 million
bow-to-stern revitalization which introduced greater culinary options, new
visually stunning entertainment and activities on-board, as well as a refresh
of all furniture and staterooms.
With floor-to-ceiling
windows and acres of glass offering panoramic views this 'Ship of Lights'
offers 11 decks of activity, entertainment, dining and accommodation. It brings
amusement and relaxation with amenities and attractions like the Signature
Casino Royale, a rock-climbing wall, the ship shape Day Spa, a 7 deck centrum
and much more. One can savour a wide variety of international cuisine in the
Romeo and Juliet Dining Room, watch Broadway-style musicals in the theatre and
go for wine-tasting at the Champagne Terrace or simply relax in the adults only
Solarium and indoor pool. Toddlers, kids and teenagers are entertained with
special activities and clubs designed for different age groups.
In Asia, Legend of the Seas®
will be replaced by the bigger Mariner of the Seas®which will be joining her
sister ship Voyager of the Seas®later next month. They will concurrently be the
‘Largest Cruise Ships to be based inAsia’.
Shedding light on the developments in this region, Mrs.Chadha added
"These are exciting times. There is a threefold increase in our guest
capacity for Asia and the deployment of two Voyager Class ships means that many
new avenues are now open to the traveller. These ships bring unique
first-at-sea innovations to this part of the world."
From Dubai, Legend of the
Seas®will cruise to Europe for a summer season divided between the Italian
homeports of Rome (Civitavecchia) and Venice.
Thereafter the ship will head to the Caribbean in November to offer
Southern Caribbean and Panama Canal sailings.
